VINTAGE DISNEY STYLE
My name is Melissa from the Disney inspired blog In Cindy’s Shoes (http://www.incindysshoes.com) & the Mickey Ear designer behind In Cindy’s Closet (https://www.etsy.com/shop/InCindysCloset)! As you can tell from my blog & from my shop, I love all things Disney…but my first love is vintage fashion & design. When I’m not visiting Walt Disney World, you can always find me at the nearest thrift store, estate sale, or antique mall. When I visit the Disney parks, I love to put together the perfect outfit inspired by some of my favorite characters & parks, while incorporating some really fun vintage accessories.
Here is an oldie of me from when I visited Epcot for the first time & getting to meet Minnie in her old futuristic rainbow & silver costume. Oh, do I miss the 80s. I loved this look so much, I decided to put together a similar (and comfortable) look to wear to the parks.
When putting together an outfit to wear to Disney, I start with one main piece that stands out to me & then build from there. I first found this silver sequin dress at Rue21 for $19.99, and knew it was perfect for this ensemble. It may look like a disco ball of a dress, but it is surprisingly very lightweight & comfortable.
Since I love to make Mickey Ears, I made silver & rainbow ears to match. It is very easy to make your own custom ears (Pinterest is your friend), or you can always find some fabulous ones on Etsy if you are looking for a particular style.
For some of my vintage pieces in this look (Figment backpack & Epcot camera strap) I owe to the wonderful Ebay, but I have also found some beautiful vintage accessories & clothing from Etsy as well.
My purple Minnie Mouse button is from when I first visited Walt Disney World in 1989. I’m so glad that I saved these older buttons, because I really enjoy wearing them to this day. There are many shops that create custom & vintage inspired Disney buttons, such as: Crowley Castle (https://www.etsy.com/shop/CrowleyCastle) & Parkbound Buttons (http://www.parkboundbuttons.com/).
I hope you all enjoyed this look, and remember, the most important thing when putting together a cute Disney outfit is comfort. Always make sure to wear good shoes & clothing you don’t mind walking around all day in!
